The House on the Bridge

 Greetings from Germany!

I am here with my wife and daughter and we are one week into a four week stay to visit some family and friends. In addition to family time and visiting, we are doing our best to make the most of all that the area has to offer with side trips to explore the surrounding towns and countryside.

The image above was made last week on our drive from the Frankfurt area to the eastern part of the country where we are spending most of our time. This is a famous bridge in the Bavarian city of Bamberg. Seeing it makes you wonder just who had the idea to hang that house off the end of the bridge. It looks somewhat precarious.

It is an HDR composite made from three different hand held exposures. The initial HDR merge was made with Photoshop CS4 and then finished using Photomatix. The image was then brought back into Photoshop CS4 for some additional fine-tuning and "seasoning". This was not a classic HDR type of scene and I probably could have gotten by without using HDR. But I wanted to have some source exposures so I could demonstrate the process for my father-in-law, who is fascinated by the possibilities that the digital darkroom offers.

My poor neglected blog...
It's been nearly 3 weeks since my last post here. Oh well, that's what a crazy schedule will do to you. I have been slammed with work and continuously pursued by a posse of merciless deadlines since I last made an appearance here in Blog Land. Late nights, early mornings, copious amounts of coffee, lots of work and little time for anything else.

In other news, I have joined the tweeting ranks on Twitter. I won't be posting bland remarks on what I'm having for lunch or broadcasting the details of mundane shopping errands (unless it's a particularly slow news day, that is). I'll be keeping most of my tweeting related to photography, art and where my travels take me in pursuit of those activities, photo and digital darkroom tips, creative insights, workshop news, curiosities observed and special offers that I may tweet about first before announcing them here or in my newsletter.
