Abandoned Theater, Cuzco, Peru
[Canon 10D]
This image was made last July in the days after the Bridges workshop. I had taken a few days to visit Machu Picchu (a photo or two from there will be posted in the days ahead) and I had about 2 days in Cuzco before heading back to Lima to catch my flight back to the States.
I found this building on a side street off the main plaza. The lower floor was open to the street, but was encased in a locked chain curtain. I had to take the photo by pushing the camera through an opening in the security curtain. In the title for this image I have called it an abandoned theater but the truth is that I am not certain. Based on everything that I could see in this area that was open to the street, it looked very much like a theater lobby, and a theater that had once looked a bit grander than it did when I came across it. My guess is that the stairs lead up to the balcony section of the theater. I would have liked to get inside to take a look at that. Even better would be to check out the projection booth (that's the wish of a former projectionist who comes from a family of projectionists).
This image has been digitally "hand tinted" in Photoshop.
