Biography

Seán Duggan is a fine art photographer, educator and Adobe Certified Photoshop Expert with extensive experience in both the traditional and digital darkroom. He has been helping photographers master Photoshop and digital darkroom techniques for over 10 years. He is the co-author of The Creative Digital Darkroom (O’Reilly Media, 2007), Photoshop Artistry (New Riders, 2006), Real World Digital Photography (2nd Edition, Peachpit Press, 2004) and he writes for national photography and imaging magazines. His "Photoshop for Photographers" tutorial column can be seen regularly in Layers magazine.

In his twenty year imaging career he has been a studio and location photographer, worked as a custom black & white darkroom printer, and supervised the digital imaging department of a professional photo lab. Equally at home with both low-tech and hi-tech approaches, his visual tool kit includes everything from primitive pinhole and plastic toy cameras to 35mm and medium-format film cameras, digital SLRs, and advanced Photoshop techniques. His photographs have been exhibited at the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, the Center for Photographic Art, and at galleries and exhibitions throughout California.

Seán teaches online classes in basic digital photography and Photoshop for Photographers for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and he also leads workshops throughout the country at venues such as the Maine Photographic Workshops, the Santa Fe Workshops,the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, the Lepp Institute of Digital Imaging, and the University of Hawaii.
